Hiring:  Food is Medicine Project Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY

The Food is Medicine Project Coordinator is responsible for implementing core activities of the Food is Medicine Project funded by the Administration for Native Americans (ANA). The long-term goal of this project is to achieve Indigenous food sovereignty for the Native community of the greater Chicago metropolitan region, by increasing access to healthy, traditional Indigenous foods and practices that honor Indigenous relationships to food. The Project Coordinator will directly coordinate core project activities in order to achieve project goals and objectives. This is a full-time position that reports to the Food is Medicine Project Director.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Coordinate Indigenous Food Box distribution activities.
  • Coordinate the incorporation of Indigenous foods into AIC senior luncheons and after school/summer programs, working with the AIC Cultural and Education Programs Director.
  • Manage all AIC garden activities at the AIC Community Garden and the AIC Rooftop Garden, including planning, buildout, maintenance, and schedule.
  • Recruit and manage the AIC Community Garden Core Committee of volunteers to plan and implement garden activities.
  • Plan and implement workdays and Indigenous gardening workshops at the gardens.
  • Work with the Outreach Coordinator to create flyers and other outreach materials about the Indigenous Food Box program and AIC gardens, and disseminate materials widely.
  • Ensure that all intake, registration, and evaluation forms are completed and collected from participants and volunteers.
  • Build and maintain strong positive relationships with project participants and volunteers.
  • Assist with fundraising activities including writing grants, budgets, and reporting outcomes to funding partners.
  • Attend all required ANA grantee meetings and trainings.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred, equivalent experience considered.
  • At least three years experience managing projects in nonprofits or related fields.
  • Knowledge of and working experience in the American Indian community.
  • Experience with gardening and community gardens.
  • Strong organizational skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills.


COMPENSATION

  • Compensation will be commensurate with experience.
  • Travel may be required for this position and will be compensated.
  • Bonuses will be at the sole discretion of the Executive Director.
