American Indian Center Fundraiser & Silent Auction
CHICAGO, IL— Join the American Indian Center (AIC) for a special evening to raise funds and awareness on Native issues. Hosted at the Newberry Library, the event will take place on Wednesday, March 18, 2020, from 6 pm to 9 pm.
Guest speaker Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky (D-IL) will discuss her support of the Violence Against Women Act, which centers on the safety of women and girls, and efforts to combat Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women (#MMIW) epidemic. There is a growing need to protect and prevent Native women, who are 10 times more likely to be murdered than the national average. The center recognizes this problem and works continuously to support Native victims of domestic violence.
The American Indian Center actively collaborates with organizations, institutions, and local leaders to ensure Native voices are heard. With no tribal presence in Illinois, AIC represents the largest urban Native population in the state. The center advocates for policy and legislature changes to meet the needs of urban Natives and bring the broader community together.
All proceeds from the event will go to benefit AIC and continue their work across the city and state. Enjoy a fun evening of socializing and participate in the silent auction.
